Encode text, not secrets
Base64 is an encoding, not encryption. Standard uses + and / with padding; URL-safe uses - and _ and omits padding when encoding. Decoding accepts valid padded or unpadded input and ignores ASCII spaces, tabs and line breaks. Invalid characters, padding and nonzero padding bits fail explicitly.
Text uses UTF-8, including emoji and non-Latin languages; a leading Unicode BOM is preserved. Binary bytes that are not valid UTF-8 are rejected because this is a text tool. It does not parse data URLs or fetch URLs. Input is capped at 1 MiB; generated text can be copied or downloaded.
